Jireh - what's in the name

For a while now, we've been wondering what the correct (Hebrew) way to pronounce Jireh is (Jijrah or ireh or?). As soon as we realize someone is from Israel, we ask them about it. But so far, they haven't even recognized the name.

Until a few weeks ago. We were walking on Patmos with Ricks' parents and got into a conversation with a Jewish man from Israel. He looked at the original Hebrew text with us, and wow, that brought a deeper understanding of the name.

Jireh is written in Hebrew as yê·rā·’eh. He told us that it can mean two things, depending on the emphasis:

  1. To be seen: being seen by God, knowing that God sees you and acts accordingly (and therefore provides).
  2. Fear of the Lord: recognizing and acknowledging the Holiness and Greatness of God (Do you serve God or do you serve people?).

This deeper understanding is very special to us. There is nothing we love more than giving people a glimpse of Him and allowing them to experience that He sees them. We have been praying for sharp heavenly sight for a long time, to see as He sees.

Furthermore, we have been exploring the topic of "fear of the Lord" for quite some time. We believe that a deep understanding of who God is, His omniprecense, holiness, and greatness, and obeying Him are essential. It cannot leave you unchanged. It is the beginning of revival, of a generation deeply connected to Him.

Isn't it beautiful how deep it can go and how we get to steer a boat that can carry this message on behalf of the King!
